What do I get with a Windows dedicated server?

A physical server with Windows Server on it and nobody else on the hardware. The cores, memory and disks in the table are all yours, and so is everything that runs on them.

No Windows licence is included: the system starts on Microsoft's time-limited evaluation licence, and you activate your own key whenever you like. Every dedicated line (Standard, Pentesting, DMCA Ignored and Streaming) runs Windows, the table below reads stock live from our catalogue, and you pay by card, PayPal or crypto.

The whole machine, no hypervisor of ours

Windows runs directly on the hardware, not in a virtual machine on a shared host. Every core and every gigabyte the catalogue lists belongs to your workload, and you can add the Hyper-V role yourself if you need virtual machines.

Windows Server 2022 or 2019, installed for you

Pick the version in the order form like any Linux image. An engineer installs it when the machine is set up, and you log in as Administrator over Remote Desktop.

Your own licence key

No licence is included in the price. Windows starts on Microsoft's time-limited evaluation licence, the full product, and you activate your own key whenever you like.

Serial console and power control

Power-cycle the machine from the panel and open its serial console, which reaches it out of band. It is a text console, not a view of the Windows desktop, so keep a way back in before you change Remote Desktop settings.

Always-on DDoS protection

DDoS mitigation sits in front of every dedicated server at no extra cost, whatever runs on it: an RDP endpoint, a game server or a public website.

10 Gbit/s port, 1 Gbit/s included

Every machine has a 10 Gbit/s port. On Standard, Pentesting and DMCA Ignored Dedicated 1 Gbit/s of usage is included and nothing is metered per gigabyte. Streaming Dedicated bills by the port and counts nothing at all.

03Licensing

How does Windows licensing work on a dedicated server?

The price covers the machine, not a Windows licence. What you start with, what your own key has to cover on bare metal, and what Remote Desktop allows.

It starts on an evaluation licence

Windows Server is installed on Microsoft's time-limited evaluation licence, which is the full product. No licence is included in the price. When the evaluation runs out, Windows shuts itself down at intervals until it is activated.

Activate your own key

Bring a key whenever you like. The edition has to match, so check with support before you buy one. Whether a key may run on hardware you rent is a question of Microsoft's licence terms: ask whoever sold it.

On bare metal, cores count

Microsoft licenses Windows Server 2019 and 2022 per physical core: every core in the machine, at least 8 per processor and 16 per server. Physical cores, not threads: support tells you the exact count for a machine before you buy a key.

Two admin sessions over RDP

Windows Server includes two simultaneous Remote Desktop sessions for administration. More people working at once need the Remote Desktop Session Host role and RDS CALs from Microsoft, which we do not sell.

How do I order a Windows dedicated server?

From the order form to your first Remote Desktop login in four steps. A person installs Windows, so plan in hours, not minutes.

    Choose line, machine and Windows

    In the panel, pick the line, a machine in stock and the billing term, then Windows Server 2022 or 2019 as the system, a hostname and a password. Prepaying 12 months lowers the monthly price by up to 15%.

  2. 02

    Pay by card, PayPal or crypto

    Card, PayPal or crypto (Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, Litecoin, Monero and more), at the same price for every method. Each order is a prepaid euro invoice; crypto is paid through Cryptomus.

    Our team installs Windows

    After payment an engineer assigns the machine and installs Windows Server. A machine in stock is handed over within a few hours; a custom build is ready in 3 to 14 days, on a date we confirm before you pay.

    Connect over Remote Desktop

    Open Remote Desktop Connection on Windows, or a Remote Desktop client on a Mac, Linux or a phone, and log in as Administrator. Then work through the hardening steps below before anything else goes on the machine.

The panel has no one-click reinstall for dedicated servers, on Windows or on Linux, so pick the system with the order. If you want to change it later, write to support first and back up whatever is on the disks.

06Hardening

How do I secure Remote Desktop on a dedicated server?

Bots try Remote Desktop on every public IP address around the clock, and on bare metal there is no VNC screen to fall back on. Do these five things first.

  1. 01

    Set a long, unique Administrator password

    Bots try common passwords against Remote Desktop on every public IP address. Make the Administrator password long and unique, and use a second admin account for daily work.

  2. 02

    Allow only your IP, then move the port

    Restrict the Remote Desktop firewall rule to your own address first, then change the port if you want quieter logs. Our guide has the PowerShell commands.

  3. 03

    Leave Network Level Authentication on

    NLA makes a client sign in before Windows creates a session, so an unauthenticated connection never gets a login screen. What NLA does, and how to fix the errors it shows.

  4. 04

    Test firewall changes with a way back

    Before you change a rule your own session depends on, schedule a task that undoes it in ten minutes, and delete the task once you are back in. The serial console will not show you the desktop.

  5. 05

    Plan users and restarts

    Give each person an account of their own; two can work at once. Multiple RDP sessions explains the limit. Set active hours in Windows Update so restarts come when you choose.

Would a Windows VPS do the job?

Often, yes. A dedicated server pays off when one workload needs a whole machine; below that, a Windows VPS costs a fraction and sets itself up automatically.

Take the dedicated server when

  • Many people work on it over Remote Desktop, or SQL Server needs a lot of memory.
  • Your workload must not share a host with anyone, for performance or for your own compliance rules.
  • You want Hyper-V or Windows containers on the hardware itself.
  • You need the cores, memory and disks of a whole machine at a fixed monthly price.

Take a Windows VPS when

  • One or two people use it, or it runs a few trading terminals or a bot.
  • You want it online minutes after payment, set up automatically.
  • You want a VNC console and a one-click reinstall in the panel.
  • You want to choose between Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
